This is a completely refinished solid teak, reclining armchair designed by Bengt Ruda for Ikea. I found this chair in central Sweden and recently imported it.
The "Sarek" chair was first released in 1959 and was advertised as the "year's biggest news". Some of the features include wide flat arms that were said to be able to hold your coffee cup, and four reclining positions. First offered only in oak, this solid teak version was released in 1964. The design was retired in 1965.
This chair has been restored with a refinished frame, and brand new upholstery in Kvadrat Hallingdal wool fabric that I had shipped from Denmark. It is in excellent condition.
The chair is interesting in design. The seat can be lifted out of the frame as there are no brackets or hardware anywhere. Four slots on the bottom of the chair allow for adjustment of the lounging position.
The chair measures 28" Wide x 31" Deep x 30.5" Tall in the upright position. The seat height is about 16".
Free shipping in the U.S. is included in this price. International shipping is available, please contact us for a quote. If you are local or would like to arrange your own transport, please contact me for a discounted price.
