This is the MS-40 model lounge chair and ottoman in leather and rosewood, designed by Arnold Madsen for Madsen and Schubell. Produced in Denmark in the mid-1960s. The chair swivels, and features a mechanism that allows the chair to be used as a rocker, or locked into 6 different reclining positions. The ottoman’s tilt also has several settings.

The original caramel/orange leather is soft with lots of great patina. The bases and legs are rosewood. The wood and original plastic feet are in excellent condition. There are no splits, tears or holes in the leather, but the leather does show normal wear. There are flaws from age and use present such as marks, spots, dents, color variation, and rub marks in the top corners. Please see pictures for condition. As intended, this leather will continue to patina with use. The original pillow cover is removable by snaps.

This is a very comfortable chair. The swivel is tight and buttery smooth, and the rocking and tilting mechanism functions perfectly. This mechanism is an original Arnold Madsen design and the Danish patent number is present on the bracket.

In the upright position the chair measures approximately 32” Wide x 36” Deep x 37.25” Tall. The seat height is about 16.5”.  The ottoman measures 22.25” Wide x 18.25” Deep x 15.25” Tall.
